Prof. Qi Long is currently serving as the Dean of the College of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering at South China Agricultural University. He is a prominent researcher specializing in field management mechanization within the National Rice Industry Technology System, and has been recognized with the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund. He leads the direction of “Agricultural Smart Operation Systems” in the key discipline of smart agriculture in Guangdong Province. He holds concurrent positions as a visiting professor at the University of Manitoba in Canada and as a professor at the Lingnan Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Guangdong Provincial Laboratory. Additionally, he serves as the Vice Director of the Guangdong Province Rice Transplanter Mechanical Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center. He is the Associate Editor of the top journal in agricultural science, Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of South China Agricultural University. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Youth Committee of the China Society of Agricultural Machinery and the Vice Chairman and Director of the Youth Committee of the Guangdong Society of Agricultural Machinery.
Prof. Qi Long leads the Agricultural Intelligence Systems Laboratory (AIS-LAB), dedicated to advancing fundamental theories and key technologies in intelligent agricultural equipment. The laboratory systematically conducts research on the basic theories and model construction of the interactions between agricultural machinery, soil, and crops. Developments include rice intelligent mechanical tillage and weeding equipment (recognized as China’s Major New Agricultural Technology, New Products, and New Equipment in 2022), rice side deep fertilization equipment, rice precision seedling planting equipment, rice nutrient and pest detection systems, and rice intelligent seed selection equipment. These innovations have been widely applied in agricultural production in multiple provinces and cities, generating significant economic, social, and ecological benefits.
Research Areas
Our research group specializes in four key areas, including intelligent weed control, fertilizer and pesticide application, chassis power, and visual detection, to address practical application issues encountered in agricultural production.
